Originality and Academic Integrity
The JORMA International Journal of Health and Social Sciences (JORMA IJHSS) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and publication ethics. Authors submitting manuscripts to the journal must ensure that their work is original, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
All submissions are screened for plagiarism prior to peer review and may also be checked at any stage of the editorial and publication process.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:
- Copying text, ideas, data, images, tables, or figures without proper attribution.
- Presenting another person's work as one's own.
- Inadequate citation or referencing of sources.
- Paraphrasing substantial portions of another work without appropriate acknowledgment.
- Self-plagiarism, including the reuse of previously published content without disclosure or citation.
- Duplicate or redundant publication of the same or substantially similar work.
Similarity Assessment
Submitted manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism-detection software. Similarity reports are assessed by editors to distinguish legitimate scholarly citation from potential plagiarism.
A high similarity score does not automatically indicate misconduct; however, substantial unattributed overlap may result in:
- Request for revision and clarification.
- Rejection of the manuscript.
- Retraction of a published article where misconduct is confirmed.
- Notification of authors' institutions where appropriate.
Author Responsibilities
Authors must:
- Ensure all sources are appropriately cited and referenced.
- Obtain permission where required for copyrighted material.
- Clearly identify any previously published material included in the manuscript.
- Disclose the use of third-party content, datasets, or materials.
Editorial Action
Cases of suspected plagiarism will be investigated by the editorial team in accordance with recognised standards of publication ethics. JORMA IJHSS reserves the right to reject, retract, or remove content where plagiarism or other forms of academic misconduct are established.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools
JORMA IJHSS recognises the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in research and scholarly writing. The journal permits the responsible use of AI tools provided such use is transparent, ethical, and does not compromise the integrity of the scholarly record.
Acceptable Use
Authors may use AI-assisted technologies for purposes such as:
- Language editing and grammar improvement.
- Improving readability and clarity of text.
- Coding assistance and data analysis support.
- Literature organisation and research assistance.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, integrity, originality, and validity of all content submitted for publication.
Disclosure Requirement
Any substantive use of AI tools in the preparation of a manuscript must be disclosed in the manuscript, preferably in an Acknowledgements, Methods, or Declaration section.
Authorship
Artificial Intelligence tools, including large language models such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Claude, or similar technologies, cannot be listed as authors because they cannot:
- Accept responsibility for the work.
- Approve the final manuscript.
- Meet established authorship criteria.
- Be accountable for the integrity of published research.
Only human contributors who meet the journal's authorship requirements may be named as authors.
Prohibited Uses
The following practices are not permitted:
- Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of research data using AI.
- Generation of fictitious references, citations, results, participants, or datasets.
- Use of AI to produce content intended to deceive reviewers, editors, or readers.
- Submission of AI-generated material without appropriate review and verification by the authors.
Editorial Use of AI
Editors and reviewers may use limited AI-assisted tools for administrative purposes, language assessment, or plagiarism detection. Manuscripts under review will not be uploaded to public AI systems where confidentiality, privacy, or intellectual property rights may be compromised.
Responsibility and Accountability
Regardless of any AI assistance used, authors bear full responsibility for the content of their manuscripts, including the accuracy of information, originality of the work, proper citation of sources, ethical compliance, and adherence to all journal policies.
Policy Statement:
JORMA IJHSS supports the responsible and transparent use of Artificial Intelligence technologies in scholarly publishing. Authors must disclose significant AI use, verify all AI-assisted outputs, and remain fully accountable for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their work. Artificial Intelligence tools cannot be credited as authors.
